In 2009, Albania became a member of the NATO North Atlantic Treaty Organization, following the ratification of the Accession Protocol by all allied countries and the deposit of the NATO Accession Instrument to the State Department, which is also the legal holder of the Treaty of Washington
In cooperation with the NATO PDD and the Ministry of Education, the Atlantic Council of Albania ( ACA ) has begun holding a series of public lectures on the topic : "NATO Today and its Challenges" in various universities and high schools in Albania. The main goal is to acquaint students with the dangers that threaten international security today, the work and role of NATO for world peace and security, its military missions and the role of our Armed Forces. Prominent specialists in the security issues in Albania and from NATO have been engaged to hold the lectures. This lecture Series will continue until the end of December 2020.
On 8 to 11 December 2019, the Youth Atlantic Treaty Association of Albania (YATA) and the Atlantic Council of Albania, supported by NATO PDD, organized the International YATA Academy on the topic NATO 70 Years of Collective Security and Defense. In this event participated 40 youth participants from Albania, United Kingdom, Germany, Hungary, Bulgaria, Nederland, Italy, Lithuania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Serbia, Spain, Swiss, Turkey.
The Atlantic Council of Albania held on June 24 2019, at Oxford Hotel in Tirana, the 21-st Annual International Conference of on the topic :
“The Western Balkans – Reflecting on its peaceful and prosperous Future”.
On 6 April 2019, on the occasion of the 70th Anniversary of NATO and 10th Anniversary of the membership of Albania in NATO, in the national parc of Tirana, the Atlantic Youth Organization and the Atlantic Council, in cooperation with the Municipality of Tirana, organized for the first time in Albania the NATO RUN Marathon, in which participated more than 600 people, mostly young people. The three marathon winners will represent Albania in the international marathon that will take place in Budapest on October 20, 2019.
In the framework of the NATO campaign “WeAreNATO”, The Atlantic Council of Albania organized lectures series on the topic “NATO’s today” focusing on university and high school students from across the country, as well as with young people groups in the remote areas of Albania.
Atlantic Council of Albania, on May 26-28, 2017, in cooperation with NATO PDD and the International Co-operative Center, organized its 20th International Conference on the topic : "Reflecting on the Atlantic integrations in the Balkans".
One of the main goals of the Atlantic Council of Albania is to discuss specific issues on current regional and international developments in the field of security with a focus on the role of NATO. In this framework, on 13 and 14 December 2016, Atlantic Council of Albania, in cooperation with the NATO Defense College in Rome and the Universities in Tirana and Durres, organized a public lecture under the title : “ Albania, NATO and the future of Euro-Atlantic Security”.
